June 1st, 2009

I am excited to finally announce that I have two new paintings being exhibited at the 2nd Pan African Cultural Festival being held in Algiers this July! Back in January I was invited to produce work for their exhibition ‘Africaines’ which will include artwork from a selection of contemporary African women artists. The festival will feature thousands of artists from all disciplines including visual art, theatre, dance, film, fashion etc. It aims to attract millions of visitors and highlight the ‘Artistic Renaissance’ that is sweeping through Africa. For more information please see their website; www.panafalger2009.dz Or visit www.voanews.com/english/2009-02-17-voa.cfm for a great little article about the festival.

back from the algiers…

July 14th, 2009

Recently back from my 5 day trip to Algeria. It was great to finally meet Nadira Laggoune, the curator of ‘Africaines’ the exhibition which featured my work and that of around 20 other female artists. Visit: http://www.creativeafricanetwork.com/page/6984/en for an article about this specific exhibition. The high-light of the trip was meeting and getting to know fellow artists from Africa. We spent our time getting to know the city of Algiers and its colourful people, experiencing some roller coaster taxi rides, eating pizza, escaping the heat under our favourite Bedouin tent and enjoying some of the many events that made up the Panaf’ 09 festival. The festival and exhibitions run until the end of the month so anyone curious to visit the tourist-untouched Algiers, now is your chance.
